The Evolution of Pécard Architectes: Between Crises and Opportunities

Pécard Architectes has weathered decades of evolution, challenges, and achievements. François, its founder, shares a clear-eyed analysis of the current state of the architecture market in Saint-Barthélemy and the strategies required to adapt to change. Between crises in the construction sector and strategic repositioning, the firm's story is one of resilience and a constant drive to reinvent itself.

A crisis in the construction sector

François begins by describing a difficult period for local architects. The once-flourishing market is experiencing a marked slowdown. Projects are becoming scarcer, competition has intensified, and many firms are struggling to survive.

“We are going through a period of crisis. Many firms have had to downsize, and others risk disappearing altogether. It's a difficult time for everyone.”

This pressure has forced the sector to restructure, creating fierce competition between local firms and those coming from outside. In this context, maintaining a strong identity and a solid reputation becomes essential.

A local clientele in full transformation

Despite these challenges, François remains optimistic. He notes that the firm is attracting a new generation of local clients, often young couples attached to their island and mindful of preserving its environment.

“These young couples, who love their island and want projects that respect the environment, bring us great satisfaction. It is a real pleasure to work with them.”

This shift toward a more engaged local clientele is a source of energy and renewal for the firm, which places its expertise at the service of human-scale projects.

Adapting the firm's strategy: Dominique's place

François also recognises the need to rethink the firm's internal organisation. Aware of the importance of preparing for the future, he stresses the key role of Dominique, his collaborator, whom he wants to bring further to the fore.

“Dominique is in the prime of his career. He embodies the next generation, and it is important that he take a more central place in the firm. I see myself more as a compass, guiding and managing strategy.”

By giving Dominique greater visibility, the firm projects an image of continuity and dynamism, reassuring clients of its ability to evolve while remaining faithful to its values.

Signature projects: a strategic asset

For François, one of the keys to the firm's longevity lies in showcasing its signature projects. These achievements, which embody the firm's unique expertise, must be used to illustrate the expertise and identity of Pécard Architectes.

“We have a number of signature projects that perfectly reflect our vision and creativity. It is essential to showcase them, to demonstrate what we can do.”

These projects, such as the “Paulista” house or the work in the Levant estate, become showcases of the firm's talent. François plans to promote them through modern media such as immersive videos and on-site interviews.

Reinventing communication

Faced with heightened competition and a shifting market, François acknowledges the need to modernise the firm's communications. This means a stronger presence on social networks, short and impactful videos, and client testimonials brought to the fore.

“Showing who we are, what we do and why we do it is essential. We must highlight our expertise and our ability to innovate while respecting the values of St Barth.”

This communications strategy aims to strengthen the firm's credibility while reaching a new audience.

Reinventing oneself without renouncing one's values

For François, navigating a period of crisis is also an opportunity for introspection and reinvention. He sees this moment as a pivotal one to reaffirm the firm's identity and to position it as a leading force in architecture on Saint-Barthélemy.

“Every difficulty is a chance to understand, to analyse, and to draw lessons in order to do better next time. We must focus on our strengths and bring them to the fore.”
